Duffy
once more clinched the Eagle Club title for the second year
in succession. In a brave bid to retain this much sought after
title he was out of traps like Ballyregan Bob in early season.
He opened his account at Ganton with an eagle two at the par
4 16th. There was a slight breeze behind and apparently The
Coat, with his awesome power, required only a seven iron to
reach the green. Ice-cool under pressure he duly sank the
putt to take an early lead. His tail was up now and it didn't
take long for the maestro to double his tally at Mere, the
par 5 9th proving easy pickings for the man in form and Clayton
Blackmore could only stand back and admire. To round off the
season The Coat proved he was an Eagle Club specialist when
he flew to Marrakesh and showed Africa what he could do. A
majestic driver into the rough was followed by a smooth sand
iron chop out and the seven iron to follow was in the hole
all the way.
The gauntlet had been laid down but Brades grabbed it with
both hands with an eagle at the 17th at Herzogenaurach Field
GC in Germany. Two drivers were roystered into the draught
and a 10 footer later it was game on in the 2000 Eagle Club
race. Tour hopeful Euan Macintosh was privileged to witness
the event.
Mystery man Honk also has one, but no-one knows how and where
- if anyone can shed any light on this - email ThePluggers@bigdecision.co.uk.
Feathers, in what proved to be another lean season, has yet
to make his mark on this competition. A couple of chances
have gone begging but form has proved elusive and it ended
up another barren season for the bodybuilder from Yorkshire.

In
a last gasp bid for glory, Duffy snatched the final Eagle Club
title of the Millennium. Having been neck and neck with the
rest of The Pluggers all year he sank a wedge at the eighteenth
at Prestbury to stake his claim for the prestigious title. Onlookers
old enough to remember '91 talked of 'a turning back of the
clock' - they never thought they would see it's like again but
those lucky enough to be there a few weeks ago were indeed privileged. |
